Barbara J.H. Widdowson Q.C.

A fifth generation Calgarian, Barbara Widdowson earned her B.A. from the University of Calgary in 1972 and her LL.B. from the University of Alberta in 1975. She articled to J.V.H. Milvain, Chief Justice of the Trail Division of the Supreme Court of Alberta. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1976.

During the early years of her legal practice, Barbara dealt with both criminal and family issues, working as an associate and then partner at a small Calgary firm. She subsequently worked as a sole practitioner before joining Soby Boyden Lenz in May of 1997. She has been a partner at the firm since January 1998.

The focus of Barbara's practice is exclusively in the area of family law. She has taken extensive dispute resolution, mediation and arbitration training and much of her practice is in the areas of mediation and arbitration.

Barbara has been an instructor in Family Law for the Alberta Bar Admission Course and for the Red Deer College Legal Assistants Course. She has written articles and lectured for the Legal Education Society and the Canadian Bar Association.

"Best Lawyers in Canada" has named Barbara one of the Best Lawyers in Canada in both the areas of family law and alternative dispute resolution for each year 2006-2009. She has also been listed as a leading practitioner in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory.

Barbara's spare time is spent running (slowly) and golfing (badly).
